Lisbon had been on my travel list for what felt like forever. Between the colorful buildings, waterfront views, rich history, and easy day trips, it really checked all the boxes. And since it’s one of the closest European cities to the U.S., the shorter flight made it perfect for a 5-day trip.
After visiting, a few spots really stood out that I’d totally recommend. Whether you’re planning a quick getaway or just daydreaming for the future, these are definitely worth checking out.
P.S. Want to see how I spent four days in Lisbon? Here’s a full travel guide.

While this is technically a short drive (Uber ride) outside of downtown Lisbon, if I had to choose just one place that left me speechless, it would be Jerónimos Monastery. I went in with no real expectations and was completely blown away. It’s massive, so detailed, and honestly every corner is photo-worthy.
The building dates back to 1495 and is packed with history, but it’s also just beautiful. We visited on a sunny day, which made the light inside even more magical.
And the best part? It’s in Belém and just a short walk from Pastéis de Belém (where you can try the original custard tarts) and a local flea market that pops up nearby.
How to Get There
About 15–20 minutes from downtown Lisbon by Uber. Super easy and Ubers are surprisingly affordable in Lisbon.

To be honest, this market wasn’t high on my list but I’m so glad I went.
Held every Tuesday and Saturday, Feira da Ladra is full of great souvenirs and local finds. I picked up some cute earrings and hand-painted tiles for friends, but you’ll also find vintage clothes, books, art, and more! It’s a fun, low-key way to experience some of the local culture and support small vendors.

Right next to the flea market is the National Pantheon, and the rooftop views are incredible. You can walk all the way around and take in the city and the river from every angle.
The inside is beautiful too, and it’s the final resting place of some of Portugal’s most important figures. But honestly? The rooftop is the star.
